Is Jesus Real?

23 09 2008

Have you ever been asked that question?  How would you answer it?  I’ve never been asked that question, but last Wed. night at church Bro. Bob described the Trinity.  He explained the Trinity, as the three forms of water.   Ice, water, and steam.  That was a very good analogy, but how do you describe water?

I am an electrician, I work at a power plant.  If you asked me how electricity is made, I could tell you in great detail, the process of converting coal to electrical power.  This is something tangible that you can put your hands on.  How do you explain something intangible, something that you can not touch?

You could quote scripture.  You could explain the Virgin Birth.  You could talk about the Cross, but how can you explain something that you can’t put your hands on?  Even though I can not reach out my hand and touch a physical being in the flesh called Jesus, I still have proof He exists.

I would tell someone this, even though I can’t see Him, in the flesh, I hear His voice every morning when I open His letter to me.  I feel His touch with a cool fall breeze on my face.  I can see Him when I look into a baby’s eyes.  I feel His spirit when I worship Him.  I have personally seen a child healed of a 103 deg. temperature instantly.  I had absolutely no idea what love was until I met Him.  But most of all, once I was blind and now I see. Life

16 09 2008

I went to visit my dad last week, in Owensboro, he started his conversation with the old, well how’s life treating you?  My reply back was, well dad life is like a roller-coaster.  He laughed, boy it is isn’t it though.  I don’t care who you are, you probably have your own roller-coaster.   Have you ever noticed how people take roller-coaster rides?  Some people look like they are having a blast, while others are scared out of their wits.  I see people taking life’s ride much the same way.  Some look like they are having a blast, while others are scared to death.

I don’t think there are any exemptions from the ride, everybody has to go.  I don’t think one generation had it worse than the other, I think each generation has it’s own set of bumps.  I think the noble thing to do is just take every up and down with dignity.

Our community has gone through a lot in the last year.  Tornado’s, hurricane size winds, death, sickness.  I don’t know how some people get through what they have gone through.  But they have, and the ones that have came out without so much as a hair out of place.

I think God uses these times to strengthen us.  I know He doesn’t cause them, but uses them to become strong enough to handle the next trip down on the ride.  I know I have.  I look back on some of the things I’ve gone through and think, man, how did I make it through that.  But I did, and I’m a better person as a result of it.

So, remember this.  The next time you can fell yourself starting to go down, you have a partner with you, God.  His word says, I will never leave you or forsake you, (Heb. 13:5).  And Phil. 4: 6 & 7 says. 6 Do not be anxious for anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be know to God. 7 And the peace of God will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

So we have to ride the roller-coaster, but we can have peace about it.  Hey, you may even throw your arms up the next time you start a down run.  Posted by Steve Waltrip

Band of Brothers

3 09 2008

If you haven’t seen the HBO block buster that came out several years ago you missed a good war movie.  It is a movie about a group of guy’s from the 101st Airborne, the training and trials they went through to get through WWII.  A true story about boys becoming men.  One of the statement that came out of the movie was, “We band of brothers stand alone together”.

Do you have a band of brothers to stand with you?  I have no doubt in my mind that we are involved in a war, with an enemy we can not see.  Like a sniper, from far off he is waiting for us to expose ourselves.  Or worse than that he is waiting for one of your family members to expose themselves. If you do not have a band of brothers, you are setting yourself up for failure.  Brothers band together to watch your back by praying for you.  They can help in a time of need, listen in time of stress, and guidance when you’ve lost your bearing.

It is with in the nature of man to want to do things alone.  Deep in our cortex there is a competitive nation that, tends to resist advice for other men.  I think it is wise to resist these thoughts.  I have learned that when I play the Lone Ranger I’m getting ready to goof up big time.  When I council with others I set myself up for success.  I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have my brothers in Christ praying for me.

God has designed you for a task, He did not desire for you to do it alone.  Find a Band of Brothers!  In closing;  1 Cor.16:13  Be alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Posted by Steve Waltrip
